How to Know if your Liver is Healthy?

Liver health can be reflected by liver enzymes ALT & AST , which is commonly seen in body check. Elevated value means that the body may have hepatitis, liver function damage or fatty liver.
What is Fatty Liver?

Among all liver diseases, fatty liver has the closest relationship with diet. Fatty liver means accumulation of excess fat in the liver. Generally, the liver fat content should be less than 5%. When the percentage is >5% or above, it is then fatty liver. There are two main types: Alcoholic fatty liver is caused by excessive drinking, while non-alcoholic fatty liver is due to obesity and unhealthy diet.
Alcoholic Fatty Liver
Our liver perceive alcohol as a toxin. When the body ingests alcohol, the liver will prioritize metabolizing it and excrete it from the body. Therefore, if you want to protect the liver, you should not drink too much. It is recommended to limit it to 1 can of 330ml beer or 1 glass of 140ml red/ white wine per day.
Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver
For non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, maintain a healthy weight, reduce the intake of saturated fat, increase the intake of unsaturated fat, and reduce the intake of refined carbohydrates. These all can help reduce the accumulation of fat in the liver.

Liver Supporting Supplement
Studies have shown that Turmeric can help protect the liver. Turmeric is a herb belonging to the ginger family. However it is not found in ginger, but the turmeric powder used in curry. The main bioactive ingredient of turmeric is curcumin, which has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, immune regulating and liver protecting properties.
Curcumin possesses strong antioxidative property. It can also enhance the liver’s ability to metabolize fat, while inhibiting fat formation, thereby reducing fat accumulation in the liver and reducing the risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. It can at the same time protect liver cells from damage and inhibit the deterioration of fatty liver into cirrhosis.
